Spotlight: Gesa Hansen + The Hansen Family

. Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Paris based Gesa Hansen is an Art Director and a furniture designer. Her pieces are honest, and pure, with subtle references to the masters. Her work is fresh and without tiresome irony (sorry Starck, Rashid, etc.). She is one to watch.

Gesa Hansen was born in Arnsberg in 1981, and graduated in Design at the Bauhaus-University, Weimar. After her studies she worked in Paris at the Ateliers of Jean Nouvel, at the graphic studio H5 and at the NDC in Tokyo. Her work was shown at the Designmai Berlin, the 100% Design Festival in Seoul, Korea, at the Design Show Artlab Brussels and by Fabrica in Bologna and Treviso. Since 2007 she is working as a freelancer in Paris and the art director of Hans Hansen Furniture who is also distributing her new label "The Hansen Family".

THE HANSEN FAMILY
Home-grown wood. Hand-made furniture. New scandinavian design.

The Hansen Family is a furniture-label created by Gesa Hansen. Growing up in a scandinavian family of carpenters, designers and architects she decided to combine new design and the archive of the family in one label which produces in small wood ateliers using ecologically grown wood in it’s best quality. Every object is handcrafted and therefore unique.
