Listen: Homeless Man covers RadioHead

. Thursday, December 17, 2009

"This tear-jerking video comes courtesy of the Opie and Anthony Show on SiriusXM radio. The footage was shot after the show's producers enlisted a homeless man, Daniel Mustard, to voice over a promo then found out he could sing. Here Mustard does an acoustic version of Radiohead's Creep with a slightly different take on the vocal phrasing and years and years of pathos in the delivery."

"Ok people. Just because hes homeless and can (kind of) sing doesnt mean he deserves any sort of contract or deal. Honestly...hes not good. Whats really happening here is that you people feel so sorry for him like hes a lost cat or something. Sorry to be on the negative side of this whole thing but I just cant stand people who comment on the internet. On a lighter note I enjoyed watching the video."

This is probably the one comment that reveals the most about the author. Sympathy? That must be the reason why nearly everyone that has seen this video likes it? Really? That might make sense if you failed to get past your own pre-conceived notions, or if you were fairly conceited. However, most of the comments, god or bad, are pretty genuine. To make that assumption really only makes your view appear a bit narrower and fails to give people credit for having the same brain power that you do. It must really suck to be unable to "stand" yourself.

Thanks for the video. The guy has got a golden voice, I must admit. Once I asked a Paper writing service to write a research about talented homeless people and its results impressed me greatly. Lots of homeless people write poems and are more knowle

He does write his own stuff too.

Absolutely amazing acoustic cover of Radioheads ' Creep ', by a homeless guy!

Awww...he does have a great voice. Unfortunately, it sounds like years on the street have hurt it quite a bit. Hopefully, a record company will get him some good insurance so he can take voice therapy. He would be SENSATIONAL if he could get, what sounds like giant papals on his vocal chords, taken care of.

I stumbledupon this piece and fell absolutely in love with this man's raw emotion and talent. Now, let's clarify a few points 1. He is NOT wearing a fancy watch. There are several hand made bracelets on the right wrist and multiple hospital ID bracelets on the left. 2. Homelessness does NOT necessarily equate with being filthy. Many homeless people strive to find decent accommodations at night and prefer to find places where they can wash themselves and their clothing, typically wearing one outfit while any other air dries. Also, his clothes do not fit that well if you look closely. He has at least three layers on, all of which are comprised of thick materials. 3. The guitar was loaned to him by the studio when they found that he actually could play and sing. He was originally brought in to record a gag segment for the show as part of an advertisement. 4. Talent is talent. One need not write a piece to breathe new life into it out of their own experiences and gifts. In fact, the studio and show's web sites have footage of three songs which this gentleman wrote, played, and sang himself which are all equally as endearing as this rendition of Creep. 5. It's spelled tailor you morons, not Taylor... get a dictionary!

Here's a video of him singing in a street in 2008 for those who doubt his homeless credibility:

we can go back and forth all day on this, but the bottom line is; the boy can sing. You can feel the emotion he conveys through this song. he's got talent, there is no denying it. Rich or poor, i dont think it really matters

Love it, this song is one of my favorites and he did such a beautiful job covering it. Sometimes peopple find beauty in the strangest places.

i saw this video about a year ago. a couple monthes later i was in washington square park playing guitar, i happen to be jamming with a random man and mid-way realized that it was this guy! he then played the song for me and told the whole story!

He's really not that good...

And anyway, talent has nothing to do with homelessness.
Also: singing doesn't mean you can write, and in today's music industry, if you can't write (or sometimes sing), you'd better be a pretty boy or girl.
There are many reasons this man does not have a record contract. I think the only reason everybody's so excited is because of the contrast with his hairy homeless exterior.

he's good and it's awesome that he keeps his talent through his struggles...but anyone who says this is better than Radiohead's version is crazy...

Thanks for an idea, you sparked at thought from a concept I hadn't thought of before . Now lets see if I can do something with it.

Stop being so naive, everybody. The studio gave him the guitar. And for his clothing, the studio probably gave him those too.

For all of you saying he can't be homeless, try volunteering at a homeless shelter. Most of the homeless look like normal people they look like him. They are just people that have had bad luck. Many homeless shelters provide showers and clean clothes. The clothes are donated by people, for instance just last week my dad donated a lot of his clothes and he has a habit of buying designer brands like versache and armani thus there will be homeless people wearing those brands. It doesn't matter this man might not have the voice you hear on the radio, he is quite talented and has a unique rustic voice for not being autotuned, like all the stuff you're used to hearing. But what I enjoy the most is not his voice or playing, but the passion behind it that he has.
