Favorite Picks: Phillips de Pury: Design Masters
December is finally upon us. With it brings the best of the best in design artifacts, as the auction houses bring their finest consignments to the market to close the year.
My first feature is Phillips de Pury's incredible Design Masters auction, taking place in New York on December 11th. This is the first half of a duo design event for Phillips, with their next auction Design taking place the following day. These are my favorite picks:
A rare MAX INGRAND table lamp by Fontana Arte, made of blue glass rods and brass.
A chest of drawers by PIETRO CHIESA in blue glass, brass and walnut, also by Fontana Arte.
HARUMI NAKASHIMA's 'Struggling Form T-1' sculpture.
A rare and important table, a collaboration between GIO PONTI and PAOLO DE POLI.
MAX INGRAND's beautiful brass and glass Model 1815 table lamp, again by Fontana Arte.
ALVAR AALTO's aluminum and brass Beehive pendant lamp.
A trio of ceiling lights by SERGE MOUILLE from Atelier Christian Dior.
A large Tour Eiffel wall lamp by JEAN ROYÈRE.
Also from SERGE MOUILLE, his rare spiralling Vrillée coffee table, one of only 30 produced.
A demountable chair by JEAN PROUVÉ.
A mahogany and bronze console table, a collaboration between ANDRÉ ARBUS and VADIM ANDROUSOV.
A unique floor lamp of iron and quartz specimens, by MARC DU PLANTIER,
A large floating bibliothèque by CHARLOTTE PERRIAND.
An oxidized and lacquered steel prototype table by SCOTT BURTON.
