French Vogue: Daria Werbowy by Mikael Jansson: Le Calendier 2011

French Vogue, with Tom Ford as guest editor for the December 2010/January 2011 Issue, gives us an early present for the holidays. Accompanying the issue is Le Calendier 2011, shot by reknowned photographer Mikael Jansson, and features 12 months of a smoldering Daria Werbowy adorned in nothing but Louis Vuitton jewelry.

Resurrected: Hermès x Jean-Michel Frank

The return of truly refined minimalist luxury, otherwise known as the vernacular of Jean-Michel Frank.

From Studio Annetta:

"The decades old relationship between the über luxury house and the before-his-time designer is about to be resurrected. Hermès has announced they plan to re-issue eight of JMF's classic designs. The launch of these pieces coincide with the opening of their new Paris store...and their official return to home furnishings. Word on the street is a third of the store will be dedicated to homewares. So, what get's me more excited than that? The possible re-edition of pieces by Paul Dupré-Lafon and Jacques Adnet of course..."

The 1st photo is of an interior he did for Marie-Laure de Noailles, "with parchment walls, straw marquetry inlay, bleached leather upholstery, perfect proportion, clean lines, super luxe materials". (via a hawk from a handsaw)

20thC7: The 7th Annual Design Auction to Benefit Cancer Research: Full Preview online now

The 7th annual auction of 20th Century Design to benefit cancer research and support services. Held in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, a portion of each sale will be donated to the cause. Each sale will also help promote educational materials on prevention, and help fund emotional support programs for those living with cancer during all phases of their illness, from diagnosis through treatment and surgery, and well into recovery.

This featured collection offers a range of works both iconic and obscure. Hopefully something interesting for everyone.

Bidding opens on the first group of items December 2nd, with the rest of the items opening throughout the week. The final day to bid is December 12th, with all items closing in sequence that evening.

This holiday season, help make cancer history.

"The Story of Eames Furniture is an insiders account of the workings of the Eames Office from its founding 1943 and its closing in 1988. The book extremely detailed and gives real insight into the relationships between Charles, Ray and some of the people who worked in the office, like Harry Bertoia, who let it be known that he would quit working everyday at 5:00pm, much to the surprise of his co-workers and greatly upsetting the Eames's Calvinist work ethic. The book also examines some of the tensions in running a design office: many Eames Office employees were never really sure if they had full-time employment, and often felt that they were not properly given credit for the design they created."

The home of Berlin-based set designer Sylvester Koziolek. With nearly every surface in black, Koziolek sets a deep and dramatic stage, with his impressive international collection of 20th Century design seemingly rising from the darkness.

Included in his collection are lounge chair and sofa by Marco Zanuso; an adjustable chaise by Osvaldo Borsani; chairs by Ilmari Tapiovaara, Charlotte Perriand, Charles and Ray Eames, and Franco Albini; tables by Hans Bellman, George Nelson, Carl Aubock, and Mario Bellini; and lighting by Boris Lacroix, Venini, and Arne Jacobsen.
